C:\Windows\system32\config\..... error
i get this error whenever i turn my Laptop on.. it happens 2 out 10 times everytime i boot it up.. id appreciate any heLp for this.. this is reaLLy frustrating.. C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location.

Hello,Try the following steps:1. Open "C:\users\[your user account]" folder. If you see two Desktop folders, 1 blank and the other with your Desktop items.you need to delete the blank one.2. Copy the desktop folder with your desktop items from “C:\Users\[your user account]\” folder to “C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\”3. Restart the computer.Try to perform a system restore and see if the issue persists:System Restore ====================1. Click the Start Button, type "system restore" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box and press Enter. Click Continue if necessary.2. Check Show more restore points, and choose a time before the issue occurs and click Next.3. Click Finish and click Yes to confirm the operation. Thomas77

thanx thomas, that worked! the icons are back and no more error. i forgot to mention that my theme reverts to the basic theme whenever that error occurs, i dont have the error now but the theme stiLL reverts to the basic theme (non-aero) and the text size becomes smaLLer. so what i do is change the text size and fix the aero settings and Log-off then Log back in to fix the probLem. any idea why this stiLL keeps happening? i aLso get an error 31 and error 37 on my device manager even though my Laptop has the Latest updates. sorry i forgot to mention this.

Thomas or... I've seen this fix posted on several sites but cannot find anyone who has addressed this potential problem. I have two user accounts on my computer and am experiencing this same problem with both accounts. Obviously I can't copy both desktops to this location, and if I rename one of the folders to something like desktop2, Windows won't recognize it because it's just looking for desktop, right? Or am I missing something here? I've been having this problem intermittently since I got my laptop (Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit) last fall.
